How Battlestar Galatica Killed TV

While you might assume the SciFi Channel saw a significant drop-off in viewership as a result of this piracy, it appears to have had the reverse effect: the series is so good that the few tens of thousands of people who watched downloaded versions told their friends to tune in on January 14th, and see for themselves. From its premiere, Battlestar Galactica has been the most popular program ever to air on the SciFi Channel, and its audiences have only grown throughout the first series. Piracy made it possible for 'word-of-mouth' to spread about Battlestar Galactica.

Mindjack

Did I mention these people still don't get it? Yes, piracy is bad, but greater access means greater insterest in consumption. If these people whould simply provide their content in a way that is not only as good as, but better than the P2P networks -- not DRM laiden where you can't move it to the device you want to consume it on, not in a proprietary format that only the uber can play in, but actually just available and easy they will make MORE money.

RE: How Battlestar Galatica Killed TV

Same story for years and years - as in this post.

Make it available the way the people want it and make it non DRM "laiden" and you will MAKE MORE MONEY RIAA/MPAA/ETC.

That is something posters here have recognized many times over the years and I suspect its something these groups have to be aware of as well. My guess is that are too greedy to accept just making more money for the product and want to once again control the delivery methods and so on as well. They are not satisfied that "music" or "movies" makes money, they also want the consumer to have to buy the delivery method.
