Southwest boots passenger for a "Meet the F**ckers" T-Shirt

Southwest boots woman for shirt

'. . . asked to leave her flight . . .for wearing a T-shirt with pictures of President Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and a phrase similar to the popular film title "Meet the Fockers.'

Now I would say this was likely more for the word "Fuckers" than for the political content, but thats just a guess. Either way its pretty stupid.

Nah, not stupid. This lady is an idiot. Not because she is wearing a t-shirt which showed Bush and such as 'Fuckers' but because she is now filing a 'civil rights' violation suit. Good god, Southwest Airlines is a private friggin' company and they can do this kind of thing. It is NOT a violation of your freedom of speech! All hail public school civics class I guess. She can wear it in public, fine. But by the time you hit the gate, or even the airport in some cases, you are on private property baby. I wouldn't let the dumb dildo into my house wearing a shirt like that either, would you? My 4 year old daughter is starting to read. Do I really want her to see the word 'Fucker' everywhere?

I agree with part of what you are saying Mr. Heimman.

I agree the lady is pretty damn stupid for wearing the damn shirt in public, in a place like an airport and on an airliner, in the first place. I think the word "fuckers" is still a get you kicked out of some places worthy offense in our society (I personally think thats stupid, its just a damn word, we freak out about words and we have lots of other more pressing problems in this country, but I recognize that that particular word does "offend" lots of people).

If the shirt did not contain that word and was just a political reference and she were booted it would be another matter . . .

I also agree that Southwest is a private company - well sort of. Technically they are private, but the FAA is so far up the airlines asses with subsidizing everything (like the "airport in some cases", not many cases) and the government is coming up with "bail out" packages all the time and shit that at the end of the day Southwest probably is at least partly supported by public monies. I know they didnt get the cash in the last dumbass give away tax revenues to the airlines "bail out" round and they are a different airline, profitable and such, but lets face it overall the airline industry in the states is far from "private".

I wish it were so, but its just not.

I diverge now and the rant intensity increases, but the whole airline "industry" just makes me sick. Its really just Amtrak in the air but we dont acknowledge that its subsidized at every turn.

Even after FAILING to protect their customers in events like Sept 11 (I still contend that at least contributory responsibility for the joke that air travel security WAS and still IS is the responsibility of the airlines) they then get $5BILLION in taxpayer money (one ONE particular occasion) to help them out when no other industry gets analagous help and then they turn around and declare bankruptcy and default on pension payments and leave that bag with the Pension Benefit Guarantee Corp and so on, damn airlines, almost deserve lawsuits whenever the opportunity arises, valid or not. Southwest is certainly better among the lot, but overall its still a sorry ass lot.

And, what I meant by "either way its pretty stupid" is that its really stupid on the part of the chick to wear said shirt, and its stupid of Southwest not to just give her some masking tape or something (I guess she contends she did cover it up with her sweater or something) - its stupid on BOTH sides that it ended up in getting kicked out and a lawsuit.
