IBMs alphaWorks has released the Java Statistical Analysis Tool (supposedly). This tool can be used to "automatically detect and pinpoint architectural weaknesses -- and even potential weaknesses -- in Java applications". Its significant because it combines IBM and Rational expertise, allegedly. I have not used it, and COULD NOT FIND IT on alphaWorks (maybe it will be out later today?) but it sounds promising. A very nice integrated code analysis and metrics tool would be beautiful (I use Jlint and some other metrics tools, some plugings to IDEs, some not, but nothing really seamlessly integrated as one that works well in the IDE and in the build script). One huge problem, its a Windows app and they are "working on" Linux flavors, kind of ironic for Java huh? IBM releases new Java structure analysis tool: NewsForge
