New SGI RedHat "Internet Server"

SGI has a new line of servers becoming available and one of the big buzz generating boxes (I am referring to the excitement generated, not a dust clogged fan and ancient coughing power supply, sorry about the psuedo-pun) in the Internet Server. The Internet Server is a 2U rack mount dual processor RedHat Linux machine, that apparently is really just a VA box repackaged and tweaked by SGI.

I am glad to see SGI moving in this direction (because IRIX is a pain in the arse and a security nightmare) but the features of this box are unimpressive and do not really distinguish it from a serious "roll your own" machine (and it offers nothing different from the VA offerings themselves.)

I like the innovation and the direction, but the product line may still need some work. Check the techweb article for more detail.   NETWORK SERVERS -- SGI'S LOW PROFILE INTERNET SERVER
