WDVL (a great site, the Web Developers Virtual Library) has a nice tutorial on RSS. RSS is the Rich Site Summary which is a specific XML method to syndicate and share content.
The "My Netscape" channels and much of the webs syndicated content are examples of RSS (including the Screaming-Penguin backend site.xml.)
RSS is a subset of XML (as mentioned), and the tutorial does the right thing by taking a look at the RSS DTD to start. Nice tutorial and good stuff to know.
